Your Brain is a Super Brain!

super brain
So many people are concerned with memory loss. I am pleased to say I found a book that helps explain how the brain works, and it has reduced any concerns I have about memory loss. I am so excited to share this book with you!

Memory loss is often quickly associated with Alzheimer’s and dementia. This is not an accurate association in many cases, and this book explains why. Super Brain is by Rudolph E. Tanzi, one of the world’s foremost experts on Alzheimer’s, and Deepak Chopra. The two authors merge their unique expertise to offer a new understanding of the brain, or the “three pound universe” as they name it, and the untapped potential it houses.

Here are just a few significant highlights from the book:

If you cannot find your car keys, but then subsequently find them, this is not Alzheimer’s. If you lose your keys, subsequently find them, but don’t know what they are, this is Alzheimer’s.

Before you blame your brain for not remembering something, examine the stress you have. Being busy, being tired from lack of sleep, being overtaxed from multi-tasking all add to our stress levels.

Life is full of unexpected challenges. Three strengths to managing life’s challenges are 1) letting go, 2) being flexible, and 3) hanging loose. Three common obstacles to meeting the challenges are 1) habits, 2) conditioning, and 3) stuckness.

Brain wellness begins and ends with awareness. We must remember that energy flows where awareness goes. When energy stops flowing, stuckness occurs. Stuckness is an illusion, but it feels very real.

Use your brain, and don’t let your brain use you. You can make your own reality by being aware of your emotions and where they initiate.

Our brains are our sources of power. Learn to better understand how your brain works in order to make it work for you. The possibilities presented in this book are excited and empowering. Pick up this book to learn more insights from the authors, and begin applying them to open up the power of your own Super Brain!

The Four Agreements by Don M. Ruiz: A Toltec Wisdom book

book cover
The first printing of this book was in 1997. I have read the book and listened to the audio book many times over the past several years. The information Ruiz presents has been very enlightening to me, and has helped me improve communication and clarity in what I do and what I don’t do.

Many of us have not been raised in a culture that encourages the approach of the Four Agreements in our daily lives and relationships. For instance, in the culture where I was raised, I always had the sense that my feelings did not matter. If I did not say the ‘right’ thing, ie expressed my opinion, there was displeasure in how I expressed myself. If the adults agreed with me, then I was good. If they did not agree with me, then I was bad.

Ruiz offers a clear, detailed explanation of the Four Agreements. Here is a very brief overview:

First Agreement: Be Impeccable with your word. This is the most important, and it is the most difficult to maintain.

Second Agreement: Don’t take anything personally. Nothing other people do is because of you, it is because of them. But there are lessons to be learned in these situations.

Third Agreement: Don’t make assumptions. We make assumptions about what other people are doing or thinking. We take it personally, and then we blame them and react by sending emotional poison with our word.

Fourth Agreement: Always do your best. This agreement makes the other three agreements habits. What a way to be good to yourself!

Breaking Old Agreements is Chapter 6. This chapter offers a path to freedom from old habits and dysfunctional relationships with ourselves and others. Stress reduction comes with this also.

I highly recommend this book, and would be happy to discuss it with you. Buy the book or download the audio, and begin your own enlightening discoveries.

Greater than the Sum of Our Parts

Epstein's book
We are all greater than the sum of our parts. We are individuals with minds, bodies, emotions, and spirits. Contrary to what we might have been taught, we are more than our parents’ biology! A maximum of 10% of all diseases are caused by genetics. Science has proven repeatedly that our environments cause 90% of all diseases. In other words, what we eat, how we manage and interpret our stress, how we exercise, and, of course, how we think and view the world greatly affects our health.

We can be in charge of our own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing. Some days our environmental stress can feel overwhelming, and it can be difficult to maintain a sense of control. Our bodies are our individual doors to healing because they experience everything we see, hear and do. Unfortunately, our bodies hold beliefs and myths we have been told. These beliefs and myths often limit opportunities to change and let go of the past, which would allow us to heal.

I recommend the book Healing Myths, Healing Magic: Breaking the Spell of Old Illusions, Reclaiming Our Power to Heal by Donald Epstein. This book examines the deeply ingrained stories or myths that we commonly hold about how our bodies heal. These myths actually inhibit healing, and we all have them. Healing can be possible after we look at social, biomedical, religious, and new age beliefs that we hold in our thought patterns, which contribute to illness and disease.

Not sure how to tackle all of this? Come in for an office visit to discuss your beliefs that may be holding you back from getting well, feeling well, and living a happy, full life!
